Note that I have been aware of the hideous amount of radio silence that I have been dishing up recently, and this is mostly because there are a lot of changes that are about to start in my life pretty soon and I am doing my best to wrap up loose ends/enjoy myself before everything changes. I’m starting University for the first time on the 20th which is both very exciting and scary for me. I don’t know what to expect, but hopefully it’ll be good and it will bring me one step closer to the game art and design course I’ve had my eye on since I was 14.
For my thanks for understanding, have a little sample of the off-time sketches I have done in-between prep (and gaming … a lot of that, aha); female Meyara species from Mercy with one of the characters. (They meet her cage fighting~). I’ll probably compile all my sketches into one post sometime later on. So look out for that.
Anyway, hope you’re all doing well~!

Still open for commissions~

Been a bit busy with personal things; prep for uni and stuff so art site has been a bit neglected. Still producing though, just got a lot of mid-stage WIP’s hanging around (about 6 >.>;) which I am still working on consistently.

Also just to let you all know I’m still open for commissions. I’d be more than happy to take big projects, but they are limited. $15 character commissions are pretty much unlimited and I can turn them out pretty fast - so don’t hesitate to inquire if you are interested~

As usual my commission information can be found under the commissions tab on my tumblr, or kerynean.tumblr.com/commissions.

Just a shout-out to those in the Perth, Australia area; I’ll be attending the third Free Art meetup at Hyde Park, and I’m bringing a (most likely) one-time-only art haul of prints and handmade books. I’ll be giving all these away free of charge. So if you can, come down and meet both myself and some other interesting artists and art appreciators.

Property of the Pleiades Corporation, Album Cover for When Power Stars Collide.
Easy Paint Tool SAI,
Photoshop CS5,
Wacom Cintiq, 21UX.

First artwork for the new year-!
Album cover commission for good friend and musician, When Power Stars Collide. It is a minimal techno EP that is expected to come out this month to early-next through the Pegasia music netlabel, which can then be downloaded for free. Don’t worry, I’ll throw up a link as soon as it’s out.

Hey, these are some really nice drawing. I'm just wondering what did you use to draw them, I really don't know much about drawing so please be specific in your answer if you will :) thanks.

I have been drawing digitally for the past six years and I have tried many different kinds of painting software - from Photoshop to Corel painter, to SAI - but right now the software I am most comfortable to use in painting is Paint Tool SAI; a relatively cheap and simple painting program made by a Japanese developer that you can get for about 40 AUD. I personally like using it because of it’s blending abilities, but for a first time user it might come off as a bit too blend-ey. My advice is just to mess around with settings till you get it right.

I value SAI as a painting software because it isn’t as extensive as Photoshop or Corel but has a nice blend of features from each; and you can understand it and use it to your advantage relatively quickly. Seriously, six years and I still really don’t know how to use Photoshop to it’s full extent.

As for hardware, if you are planning to get into digital I highly advise the purchase of a tablet. Drawing with a mouse is just brutal and is probably a just quick way to get carpal tunnel. When I started with digital, I was already pretty confident with traditional drawing but I quickly learned you can’t just ‘dive in’ with digital. There is quite a steep learning curve (or there was for me) when transitioning between traditional and digital. The most diorienting part of the process is learning to use a tablet with a screen. The most affordable tablets are more like a pen-sensitive mouse pad than anything else and it can be quite disorienting at first. It may be discouraging, seeing everything you draw take a back-step but don’t be discouraged. Like with everything else, with enough practice you will get better at it. Currently I use a Wacom Cintiq 21 UX which is a very expensive tablet but I had to make the upgrade after my wrists started getting worse and I really needed a more ergonomic set up.

Overall if you are planning to get into the digital art medium, Here is my list of things you need:

First of all, a tablet - from what I hear the Wacom Bamboo is a nifty little tablet with a nice price tag.

Next, a Painting Software - I recommend Paint Tool SAI since it is pretty good and relatively cheap but there are other free softwares out there like the GIMP that you can always practice on until you can afford software.

And lastly, THE MOST IMPORTAINT THING TO HAVE - Perserverence. I am a person who has never believed in the concept of talent. If anything, the only talent I believe in is the talent to perserve despite the odds. I am very well known to be a stubborn goat when it comes to things I set my mind to and even when things are looking bad I still work at it. I wasn’t terrific at art since birth, I’ve had my fair share of ugly artworks. The only difference between me and everyone else is even though I drew crappy things – I kept at it. I believe anyone can become good at art as long as you keep trying. Because the moment you put your pen, paintbrush, pencil, or stylus down and say ‘it’s too hard’ that is where it ends. You can’t improve if you don’t practice. Yes this does sound like a lot of work and quite frankly it is; but it is very rewarding. There is nothing like working on a painting and seeing it turn out well and become something you can be proud of. So don’t give up and never ever give in to those feelings of self doubt. It may be cheesy but it’s true – put your mind to something and anything is possible.

Sorry for the long and somewhat late reply, but I hope that answers your question!

Just proving to you guys I am still kicking around in art, aha. Christmas has been kind of busy, and I do have a decent pile of commissions in progress. I’ve also got another story (I am Fiona, forever too many tales) which I’ll alternate between Mercy. Compared to Mercy it’s going to be rather short (as I call Mercy the crowning jewel of my stories) just one book, not a series. It should be out of the way soon, considering it’s practically writing itself, always a good sign.

Anyway, I hope you guys had good holidays, and best wishes for the New Year~

Christmas Commissions!

That’s right folks, I’m a bit short on Christmas cash, so I’m opening my commissions to the public! I’ll only be able to take so many on, and it also depends on the type. You can drop your inquiry into either my askbox or send me an email and I’ll get back to you with a price projection and estimation of when it will be finished. For more information, head over to my Commissions page!

I’ll only take in a certain amount; I’ll make sure to update when I hit my limit, so get in quick!

Fiona.

Oop

Wrong blog for last post. Sorry guys for my senseless reblogging. Anyway I spose I should give you guys some sort of update, still arting, but Skyrim’s a bit all consuming. NaNo has reverted to the back-burner, since I want to work on MC a bit more, and also since I’m in a bit of a burnout phase after working on story-stuff solidly for a month in preparation. I actually have tonnes of that stuff I could post, but I want to hold off because I need to keep some things exclusive to the release. Still, here’s a bit of character-consistency sketches for the sake of it.

Go on, you’ll never guess what I’ve been playing.
This is my Skyrim character, Eira, painted because taking photos of me playing games on my PS3 is ugly. Fun fact; I painted her face three times before I was happy with it. She’s a Nord, with her own backstory. Yes, you heard me. (There might be a comic about it … might be). Just a WIP for you folks between commissions and NaNo and stuff.
